Ms. Phillips is an associate with
the firm who concentrates on the defense of medical malpractice
claims. She represents hospitals, physicians, nurses, and
health care facilities at the trial and appellate level in cases
alleging medical negligence in personal injury and wrongful death
claims. Ms. Phillips’ litigation experience includes all
phases of fact and expert discovery, motions practice, defending
and deposing expert witnesses, bench and jury trials as well as
litigating insurance coverage disputes. For several years
before joining WLEK, Ms. Phillips primarily defended Montgomery
General Hospital in Olney, Maryland. In addition to defending
the hospital on medical malpractice claims, Ms. Phillips handled
physician corrective action proceedings, conducted in-service trainings,
acted as in-house counsel regarding physician agreements, contract
disputes, emergency guardianships, living wills and employment
disputes.
Ms. Phillips received her B.S. from Boston College in 1995 and
her J.D. from Catholic University Columbus School of Law in Washington
D.C., in 1999. Ms. Phillips performed a two-year clerkship
for the Honorable Paul H. Weinstein, Chief Administrative Judge
for the Sixth Judicial Circuit, in the Circuit Court for Montgomery
County from 1999-2001.
Ms. Phillips is a member of the Maryland and District of Columbia
bars as well as the U.S. District Court for the District of Maryland
and the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia.
