Founded in 1984 as a “boutique” litigation firm, Wharton Levin Ehrmantraut & Klein
has grown in numbers and scope to become one of the Mid-Atlantic’s
most highly regarded law firms. Fueling that growth has been the Firm’s
long-standing reputation for courtroom excellence and attentive, cost-effective
representation of its clients. Of course, winning many trials over
the intervening decades also has contributed significantly to the professional
respect garnered by the Firm! Our original members came together from major
regional practices to form a new, litigation-centric enterprise focused
on exceptional service and results for their sophisticated clientele. The
Firm recruits new attorneys from the best and the brightest of law school
graduates, most of whom come to us after clerking for appellate or trial
court judges.
Our array of widely respected lawyers has earned Wharton Levin Ehrmantraut
& Klein the preeminent status of being a “go to” law firm for the defense
of “bet the company” and “bet the professional license” cases. The
Firm’s ranks include several attorneys voted by plaintiff and defense lawyers
across the region as being “Super Lawyers,” two past Presidents of
the civil defense Bar, a longtime member of the high court’s prestigious
Rules Committee, and a great percentage of members awarded the highest
possible peer-review rating by Martindale Hubbell.
We offer a broad range of litigation, business
and professional-oriented legal services through our Litigation and
Business Practice Groups. The Firm's Litigation Group is particularly
known for its skillful representation of healthcare professionals,
hospitals, lawyers, product manufacturers and other major business
interests in the most serious and complex cases involving alleged medical
malpractice, professional licensing, products liability, toxic torts, aviation
crashes, commercial disputes, and other difficult civil and criminal matters.
The Group's experience includes client representation on national,
regional, and statewide bases. Its members have briefed and argued
many of the significant appellate decisions in their practice areas.
Three of the Firm’s principals are also trained mediators, so when
they are not busy trying cases for their own clients, they are applying
their mediation skills and front-line courtroom experience to the resolution
of complex and high stakes cases at the request of attorneys in other
firms.
The Firm's
Business Practice Group covers all aspects of business organization,
commercial and residential real property transactions, taxation of businesses
and individuals, debtor and creditor rights, estate and trust administration,
commercial contract matters, Uniform Commercial Code interpretation and litigation,
and bank regulatory matters. Its business and corporate attorneys assist
clients with the formation of corporations, partnerships and limited liability
companies, the purchase and sale of businesses and business entities, secured
and unsecured borrowing transactions, and the negotiation and drafting of
contracts of all kinds.
The Firm's lawyers actively volunteer in leadership roles
for the various professional organizations to which they belong. They
also serve on a variety of governing and advisory boards for civic,
educational and religious institutions, and regularly publish and lecture
in their areas of expertise.
